The force is strong in this one…..

I hope you this one enjoy!

When I was 10 years old, my mom took my brother and me to see Star Wars (the original film with no CGI effects etc.) We queued for about 1 hour to get into the cinema which was the Gaumont in Birmingham that  has since been knocked down and replaced with the Weslyan Insurance building. As it happens I also saw the Land that Time Forgot there too but although I was probably only about 7  at the time, the less said about it the better!!

Anyway, I remember clearly the first scene of the first Star Wars movie (which is now the 4th ….weird!) when the Empires’s ship comes onto the screen. This was a first for that time. It looked so real and from that moment I was hooked.

So, of course, I had to drag Sue, Beth and Chanelle along last Friday to see Episode 3 (which is in fact the 6th one….weird!). For most of the film Beth was asking if it was nearly finsished but I was totally engrossed in watching the story all begin to fit together.

Having watched the previous 2 movies (which were in fact epsiodes 1 & 2….not so weird!) I was hoping for something a bit more passionate and full on to make me feel a bit more like when  I first saw the original movie at the Gaumont cinema in town. And…….it did it for me!!

At one point I found myself almost feeling sick like you do on one of those fairground rides because of all the to’ing and fro’ing as I tried to keep up with the Jedi fighters as they flew rapidly all over the place avoiding enemy fire and all that. COME ON!!

So many light sabre fights, good story, better acting, CGI yoda, Natalie Portman….etc.

Anyway, if you havent do!! I’m looking forward to this one on dvd so we can have a 12 hour Star Wars A Thon. Anyone up for it?

I’m lovin’ it. COME ON!!!

Its me again…

Hi

Long time no speak. I must admit I havent really thought about writing for a while but I have also been away for a few days and been really busy planning the tent event amongst other things.

Last week I was away at Maegwynedd Outdoor Education Centre in Wales with a local junior school where I am a governor. Had a great time and enjoyed the activities however, after a session of caving, I cannot for the life of me see why people do that for fun!!

Well, I also decided not to do the 103 mile bike ride I had volunteered to do…yep! 103 miles!!!!! Having taken my bike for a short ride for the first time in over a year, I realised it just wasnt going to happen.

Tent event starts next week and Im hoping that we get chance to share our faith with loads of young people. Should be great fun!!

Speak to you soon

Stuart

ps. well done to Liverpool Champions of Europe

Liverpool were greeted by up to a million fans on their victory parade

Tent Event….

Well, its only 1and a half weeks till we start the tent event.

I cant believe this will be the third one weve done in Shirley Park over the past 5 years. Where does time go?

I am looking forward to it as this one will be slightly different to the previous 2. This time we have a different kind of programme although some of the stuff is the same.We have some proper acts on this time as well as a rockers night (I reckong God likes rock music best!!…) and at least 4 young people being baptised on Saturday night 4th June. COME ON!!

Yes, its true; young people following Jesus Christ. COME ON!!!!!!! If you want to check it out, be at the tent in the park at 7pm on 4th June to hear their testimonies.

We have Tommy Baker on Wed 1st June. He is a World Record Holder for spinning basket balls etc and he is amazing. Then, on Thursday 2nd June we have Steve Legg who is a magician and escapolgist. A good guy. Then on Friday 3rd June we have the rockers night with 2 local bands and Dweeb who are a little strange but good at the same time. That is strenage in a  very good way of course.

Anyway, hope you can make it. If not check out my blog the week after it for more details of how it went.

Byeeeee

2nd Weekend in Wales…..

This last weekend I had my second weekend in Wales on the trot…..not that we were trotting of course….just in case you wondered!!

We took CHUD to Cefn Lea in Newtown for a chill out weekend which was great. We had Friday night through to Sunday lunch time there and had great weather.

The boys love skateboarding and roller blading down the road on site which has a large decent and corners etc. I tried it on a scooter and did it once but was a bit scared. The guys and girls go for it and video themselves while flying into a bush or falling over. We had several injuries like a cut chin, near broken thumb, cut elbows and hand etc but nothing too serious.

With us this year were some guys from Birmingham City Mission. 5 young people from Chelmsely Wood made their mark on our weekend. They were very loud and annoying at times but at other times had some good chats about God etc. One of them in particular asked some amazing questions about God and we had some good chats.

Sophie and Matt from BCM did 3 sessions. 1 on Justice, 1 on Selfishness and one on Sacrifice which were really good and thought provoking. The Chelmsley lot all came from one school and had problems at home with drugs, and alcohol causing issues with family. But God is the answer to their problems and they listened to us chatting and I pray that they pray to God now when they are struggling with stuff and let Him in to their situations.

On Saturday we went to Borth. The weather was great so some of us went swimming in the sea. FLIIIIIIP! It was freezing!! Literally burning away at bits and pieces that I cant mention. Actually the rudest bits of me disappeared!!

We got back on Sunday afternoon and then I went out to X-Stream which was pretty chilled with onyl a few of us there but still really good time with God etc.

Tent event is onyl a couple of weeks away so Ill post soon about that more….

Bye for now

Weekend in Wales….

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Well, we had a great weekend in Wales with the young people from the Tuesday night drop in.

Staying at the Snowdon Lodge which is a bunk house/hostel in Snowdon area, we had a fun time chilling out and doing activities together.

                                                                                  Lawrence House Tremadog, North Wales

The lodge is the birthplace of Lawrence of Arabia….ooooooooo!!! and was a little on the small side really for our large group although the people who run it were okm and in the end were impressed by the way the young people behaved etc.

We split into 2 groups on Saturday and one group went to a high ropes course and the rest of us went mountain biking. The mountain biking was a good experience although several times I would have really enjoyed being air lifted back to the base. Being unfit is not an ideal starting point for tackling lots of up hill climbs on a bike when you havent ridden for ages.

Sore bottom, aching legs, heart pumping like mad but still had a great time. We gathered at the top of one of the up hill parts after seemingly never going down and prayed. Pete said pray Stu so I prayed….”God, you made the hills and mountains so please make sure the next bit is all downhill to the finish. AMEN”

I must admit it was bit of a faithless prayer but guess what?…..it was all downhill. COME ON!! God has a sense of humour and He answers prayer.

On Saturday night we had a BBQ on the beach at Black Rock Sands. God gave us perfect weather for the right amount of time; Blue sky and heat from the time we got there till the time we left then it rained on the way back to the Lodge (Gods timing is awesome!!). We had a good time chilling on the beach.

Anyway. it was great to be all together for the weekend and I know it makes a massive difference to everyone. It helps to build good, fun relationships with the kids and they learn that they can trust us so we are able share about Jesus and they listen and then make up their own mind but the great thing is they are not put off by it.

Anyway, lots of things coming up so watch this space!!

COME ON!!

VE Day….

8th May 2005 is the 60th Anniversary of the end of WW2 in Europe. The war against Japan went on a little while longer.

Tomorrow is May 5th 2005 and we are able to vote to elect a government. Thousands upon thousand died so we have the freedom to do that. If you are able, please vote!!

I really am interested and fascinated by Second World war history and I think that fascination comes from the fact that my parents lived through it and that I am part of a generation that came directly after the one that went through the war and so is able to connect somehat with what they went through.

I always feel humbled to see how many young men and women gave their lives to protect their country and to fight against Nazi evil.

That generation gave its life in thousands willingly to ensure democracy for our country and freedom for others.

Would I have been able to do the same. The answer is, I hope so but I’m not convinced I would. We owe a massive debt to those who fought and died and/or suffered so we could live in this democracy.

I believe that this generation should be taught all there is to know about that period in history so that it hopefully, wont happen again.

WE MUST NEVER FORGET!!

Bank holidays….

What are you supposed to do on Bank Holidays? I know it may sound weird but its kind of an imposed holiday which, while being great in a way, also means you have to find something to do.

I managed to cut the lawn before it rained which is excellent.

In the past few years its been difficult to keep on top of cutting it cos’ it always seems to rain when you have the time to do it. It was still fairly short today so it didn’t take long. We are hopefully about to have our garden re-designed and all that which will mean we lose some of our grass and then…..not so much mowing!! COME ON!!

We went to Coughton Court which is quite nice. Involved in the Gunpowder plot and all that stuff which was 400 years ago and gives us the excuse we use every November in X-Stream world to have our Bonfire Night Bonanza. If youve never been before, check it out this coming November!!

Guy Fawkes

The weather changed from being hot and sunny to pouring down with rain and thunder and lightning.

Then it went ok again!! NICE!!

Still it was good to be out with Sue, Beth & Chanelle and we all had a good time.

COME ON!!

Pete McCahon

Hi

I found out the other day that Magician and Christian Evangelist, Pete McCahon died last Christmas of a heart attack.

He was a really funny guy with a knack of making you laugh while telling people about Jesus. He also became quite well known due to his appearances on the TV.

He did several slots up here in Solihull over the years and proved very popular.

As a Christian, he is now in Heaven cos thats the promise to all who believe and trust in Jesus Christ.

A shame for us but party time for him.

COME ON!!
