As a Bible believing follower of Jesus Christ and a football fan following England in the world cup, I am disturbed to read this report I found on the BBC website. In fact, I think we may as well not turn up…….or get on our knees now and pray to win!

I have aged at least 10 years over the past 2 weeks due to the world cup! Why can’t supporting England be easy and stress free.
I think that God has a sense of humour. He made me to support Birmingham City and England! Still, at least God never lets me down and He didn’t make me to support Spain (ouch!)
What do you think about this world cup? A classic one or one that will be lost in the annals of time? There have been some good games and some naff ones (anyone see Switzerland vs Ukraine?) and some great goals; not least Joe Coles shot from 35 yards against Sweden…get in!

I believe we need to see people supporting each other as the struggle and battle rages in the spiritual realm. We have to see that we are in a battle for the eternal lives of our family and friends; neighbours and, I hasten to add, our enemies!!

and he really does seem to be turning in good performances for England. It would be random if he ended up with the Golden Boot award at the end of the world cup.
Can we win it? I, being the eternal pessimist (a Birmingham City fan) can’t quite see it.
We play Paraguay first up 
and I really don’t know much about them but I hope we can beat them. Then it’s Trinidad and Tobago 
and I can’t see us not beating them but then come Sweden
. I think its about 30 years since we last beat them and I just hope this will be our time.
The problem is that if us or Germany 
don’t finish in the same position in our respective groups, we end up playing each other in the second round if we have both qualified. I think we need to win all three matches to finish top of ours cos I think they will finish top of theirs.
Still, my hope is, whether in the second round or the final (which is what we hope above all else for) that we get to beat them in the cruelest of ways; penalties!!!……but we can’t let Peter Crouch take one!!!!
However, to get to the final we will probably have to play and beat Holland 
and Brazil 
……..is it possible?……
