Back again….

…I always want to find time to blog but it never seems to happen. I sometimes try and yet find it hard to know what to talk about….yes!! Thats me saying that…the one who’s never short of a thing to say!!

I really am going to try to blog more often now. It is my Half-time New Year resolution.

Well, today has seen Bimingham City (almost) sold to a millionaire bloke. Hong Kong businessman Carson Yeung has become Birmingham’s largest single shareholder after buying 29.9% of shares from the club’s directors. Should be interesting.

Hopefully we will see some of those millions helping us to compete with the more powerful clubs in the Premier League although it does seem that every team is now owned by a very rich person or persons and so I suppose the playing field is still, so to speak, is still even….no pun intended.

I suppose we will have to wait to see how this season pans out and that we will be looking back come next May to see if it was a good thing or not. I wonder if this guy is the actual Hong Kong Phooey?

Nice!

TENT EVENT - DAY 1

Well, following the very lat e hour that we eventually left the tent on Tuesday after setting up, Wednesday arrived with….RAIN!!

The great thing is that we are totally confident that God knows what He is doing even if we find it a little odd! The childrens event (COUNTDOWN) went well in the morning and, despite the weather, they got 45 kids which was ACE!

As we took over the tent for our youth events in the afternoon and evening, it all seemed a little underprepared and yet, previous experience shows that this is always the case and in the end all is good. We set out the tent as we required it and then waited to see who would come.

We had hired two football freestylers who are used to performing at Champions League finals etc . Both are Christians and perform some amazing tricks with footballs…bikes and ladders!!! They were both really nice guys and the young people who came were totally amazed at what they can do…a great crowd puller.

Then we had the inflatable Bungee Run which was fun fun fun! We ran a competiton to see who would be the overall best Bungee type person. This went down really well. The evening was interspersed with X-Stream dancers doing their thing and lots of fun with the pool table, Play Stations and the Cafe.

God is good!!! All the time!!! We view these events as ways to meet local young people and let them be ‘exposed’ to Christians rather than major ‘preaching’ opportunites. We believe that the realtionships we cna build now will lead to opportunities to talk about our faith in Jesus.

We are really looking forward to today and I will try to post some pics over the next few days.

COME ON!!

A sobering tale….

Follow the link below. I read this following a link for the 24-7 prayer website; www.24-7prayer.com

It makes you realise how easy it is to be a christian in the UK in reality. We do not really know what it is to suffer for Christ….yet!!

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssss!…

…Keep right on to the end of the road…..Blues are back in the promised land of the Premier league.

Today Luton; Tomorrow the Champions league final…well, I suppose I can dream!

Me and Beth were there on Sat as we beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0….but, as I discussed with the old bloke who sat next to me, I don’t know how we did it cos’ we were poor. But, we did and following Derby losing 2-0 at Crystal Palace, we are promoted.

Up the Blues! and ….well…..down with the Villa!!

COME ON

Another must read book….

…..SEX GOD by Rob Bell.

I find it hard to get interested in book and for perhaps over the past 10 years I could name about 3 books that I have read completey and enjoyed. I use to read loads as a kid and spent many hours reading things like Secret Seven books and The Chronicles of Narnia. I even once read the book of ANNIE while on a camping holiday when I was about 14 years old…..does that ruin my street cred?….did I have any in the first place?…..probably not!!

Anyway, I have, over the past year read 3 books that have really gripped me - The Lost Message of Jesus by Steve Chalke; The Smile of God by Andy Hawthorne & Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian Faith by Rob Bell.

The latter author has written a new book called SEX GOD and as anyone who knows me well knows, I am passionate about both!!!! I am passionate about providing good quality and informative Sex & Relationship education in schools to young people and I love God.

So, this book is always going to be shouting at me to read it. I have just read the first chapter and felt that I should say, already, that it is something you need to read. Rob Bell is an amazing writer and speaker and he seems to be able to make ordinary things and even things that other people often make to sound ordinary, come to life in a way I have never found anyone else can do.

I am not into hero worship as a christian and I detest it when christian leaders are held up as almost demi-gods themselves but I think it is good to point to people who can cause us to reconsider the Christian Faith in new and very informative ways; making it come to life again and expanding our horizons with God.

Buy it and read it and tell me if it doesn’t inspire you!

COME ON!!

Losing weight…

…I know I need to lose weight!!!

Its really odd to put on weight and realise it while not really doing anything about it. In this media driven world, to get fat is a crime. And, while I am never likely to worry too much about what people think of how I look, I do feel conscious of the rapidly expanding girth.

The Bible tells me that ‘…my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit..’ and so I would probably equate mine to St Pauls Cathedral; especially when I lie on my back!!!

So, it is without further ado that I am to begin my diet and excercise regime that will see me lose weight over the next few months. I love food and so will need to excercise more than simply just not eat. The issue is also that I’m not all that fit at the mo so it will take a while to get back into the jogging etc….but I will!!!…oh yes, that slim build will be mine!!!! mwahaha….anyway….

The final piece in the masterplan arrived in the post yesterday….I have purchased a jogging armband to hold my MP3 player which I hope will supply the tunes that will make the running etc that much more bearable.

So, if I show no signs of doing anything about this, and you know me, please shout at me and make sure I keep at it over these next few months. I could do with the support!!!

COME ON!!!
